Lordington Park Agronomy is delighted to announce that it has chosen Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre as its Charity of the Year for 2022.

Shiresmill Therapy Riding is a registered charity that provides therapeutic riding and other equine related sessions to people of all ages and abilities with additional support needs.

Based just a few miles from Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland, the riding centre is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers and includes indoor and outdoor arenas, as well as paddocks and grazing fields.

Throughout 2022, Lordington Park Agronomy will commit its annual fundraising efforts to help the charity and aims to help increase awareness throughout the year to raise essential funds.

Jonathan Holmes, owner of Lordington Park Agronomy, says: “We’re delighted to choose Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre as our charity of the year for the next 12 months. This wonderful charity, which uses the connection of horses to boost learning, health and wellbeing, is run by volunteers with no paid staff and so is completely reliant on donations and grants.

“We were first introduced to the centre earlier in 2021, when we provided advice on how to manage the soil effectively in its fields and paddocks. Its native ponies live out 24/7 and are rotated round its fields so the company wanted to understand the nutrients in the soil in order to introduce a safe fertiliser regimen and to avoid any issues such as laminitis. Our analysis established a quite impoverished soil that is short in calcium and magnesium so have worked to stimulate a productive environment.”

Linda McCloy, a trustee at Shiresmill Therapy Centre, said: “We’re delighted that Lordington Park Agronomy has chosen to support our fundraising efforts this year. The yearly running costs of our centre are around £23,000 and we are currently looking to build a new cabin to house toilet facilities, kitchen, pony pantry and paperwork. We also need a 15-hand weight carrying pony to share the  workload, now that our other pony is getting older.”

In February 2021, Jonathan will be raising money for Shiresmill Therapy Centre by clocking up the miles! He will donate 1p for every ’10 paces’ he makes next month.
